Psych, anyone?

“With constant repetition, memories become more deeply ingrained. The brain can teach itself by repeating words and facts mentally. Remarkably, the technique also works on physical things.”
–Discovery Channel

Psychology is indeed one of the most interesting subjects I ever had, if not the most. For one thing, it provided me a whole lot of thinking to do, from the parts of our bodies to the insights and natural tendencies of our behavior. It made me understand things we usually question about, but more often than not were left unanswered. It comes out to be the kink to fuel your senses since it really is a thing of interest. It also made me appreciate the fact that we are capable of communicating, expressing and showing what we feel. But apart from the objectivity of what I have learned (moving out of the lessons we had), I realized the value of what it takes to be human who, by choice, can be inclined to what is morally good.

Learning how to deal with a new subject is not quite a tale to do. There are things you must prepare yourself with; from knowing the teaching style of your instructor to grabbing a hold of reference materials for supplementary information. But it is a fact that the lessons we had were only the appetizers, if not, the main dish. What better way to describe the icing on top of the dessert are the values we have learned and gained and will treasure for the rest of our lives.

First, I learned to value the importance of honesty, which our professor gave a big emphasis on. In every quiz we had, we were always reminded of not entertaining any form of temptation that might come our way, most especially when the dire need of it comes really intense. Whatever we do, it takes an honest man to be trusted. Second, I learned discipline. In everything we do, we must establish on ourselves the kind of order and control of things, in order for us to be on the right track and keep everything else rolling the right direction. I have learned how to balance my time in studying my lessons and managing my time most especially in doing our group research paper which really required more of our precious time. Also, I was able to train myself not to be absent in classes since attendance was really given a big importance. Thus, I took much effort on how to take good care of myself so as not to get sick (no sickness, no absence! J) since I am the only one responsible for myself in living alone here in Manila.

Lastly, my relationship with God was catered and cultivated, thanks to our professor who really brought us closer to Him. Each time we start our classes, we pray. And as we end, we also pray. He also shared to us about his life stories; through which we surely had something to learn from them, and how we must put God at the center of our lives whatever happens. In totality, the whole second semester in Psychology was filled with life-changing experiences that will surely be of residence in our memories.

Honesty. Discipline. Fear of the Lord. These values are truly the ones I will never forget (thanks to my hippocampus! J). And it takes one to apply it in his life for him to be able to remember, reminisce, develop and fully understand.
